Tonight I did some drawing in my sketchbook.

Over the weekend while I was backpacking in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness in the Adirondacks we ran into a forest ranger out on patrol. It was our last day hiking, so we were heading out of the wilderness while he was on his way into the wilderness. I can’t for the life of me remember his name, but he was very friendly. A total mountain man character. We all chatted for a while about different topics, and then the conversation turned to bear safety.

The forest ranger told us a charming story about an old female bear nicked named Yellow-Yellow because of her two yellow ID tags in each ear. The Siamese Ponds Wilderness is her home and apparently she is one crafty old lady. She has an uncanny ability to chew through cord to get bear bags out of trees and she has even figured out how to unlock and unscrew bear canisters. I was so touched I had to draw her portrait.
