Silkscreen Print. Edition of 30. 25 x 17 inches.
Continuing on my series of animal silkscreen prints, here is a wolf. Wolves are one of, if not my favorite, animal. I wanted to hold off on printing a wolf until I felt really comfortable printing big editions of large prints. It’s tough, it takes a lot of time, but I feel I have sunk into the rhythm and practice of being a printer. These large prints take about about 13-15 hours to print and I usually print them in one day. Needless to say, it’s a long day and I’m usually still awake and printing when the sun is rising, but it’s a satisfying feeling.
Because wolves are my favorite animal (dare I use the phrase “spirit guide”?) I put a lot of personal meaning into this piece. To me, this wolf is definitely female. She’s big and strong, and she means business. I wanted to print her in shades of purple because I love the color purple. To me, purple is a feminine color without seeming overly girly or having all the negative connotations of pink. I see purple as pink’s older more sophisticated, sultry cousin.
Outtake from this afternoon’s print photography session with the amazing Molly Jackson.

HELP! Okay, so I need some feedback.
I think I’m going to remove the halo around the buffalo’s head. It’s not really doing anything, or adding anything. It’s also making the composition feel very heavy on the left side. I think taking the halo out will make this piece better.
What I need an opinion on is text. Originally I was going to carve type on the bottom part of the board. You can see that I left room for words. I’m really struggling with what message I’m going carve, or if this even needs words. Originally I was going to have, “Bone & Blood” but then I thought “Bloodied but Unbowed” would also work.
What do you guys think? Come up with anything better? Let me know!

I really like this guys stuff. Stumbled on his blog by accident.
Two very enjoyable and lovely things.
I’ve been very busy today in the type shop and silkscreening studio. Trying to finish up some posters for tomorrow’s student art sale!
Impulse buy of the day.
I was exploring the downtown area of Providence today and I passed by a store call Craft Land. Oh my God. You need to go to this store! Amazing little shop filled with all handmade items. They have letterpress goods, prints, handmade buttons, cards, handmade books, artisan jewelry, and knitwear.
I saw this woodcut print hanging on the wall and it was love at first sight. It’s pretty big, 24x18 inches, and it was only $35. $35 for a large, detailed, two tone woodcut print. Uh, hell yeah!!
I’m amazed I didn’t walk out with the whole store.
