Continuing on my series of animal silkscreen prints, here is a wolf. Wolves are one of, if not my favorite, animal. I wanted to hold off on printing a wolf until I felt really comfortable printing big editions of large prints. It’s tough, it takes a lot of time, but I feel I have sunk into the rhythm and practice of being a printer. These large prints take about about 13-15 hours to print and I usually print them in one day. Needless to say, it’s a long day and I’m usually still awake and printing when the sun is rising, but it’s a satisfying feeling.
Because wolves are my favorite animal (dare I use the phrase “spirit guide”?) I put a lot of personal meaning into this piece. To me, this wolf is definitely female. She’s big and strong, and she means business. I wanted to print her in shades of purple because I love the color purple. To me, purple is a feminine color without seeming overly girly or having all the negative connotations of pink. I see purple as pink’s older more sophisticated, sultry cousin.

SIlkscreen all-nighter number two for this week.

Complaining makes me feel better, okay? I’ll admit it, I’m getting my ass kicked. You finish one thing, and then you just have to move right on to the next project. It’s tough but it teaches you dedication and discipline.
I just want to say to the wider RISD community….keep it up, you’re working so hard, you all deserve a hug and a nap. RISD is a culture of workaholics, people who just won’t stop until all their work is done to the best of their ability. It’s really inspiring and supportive. Everyone is not only struggling together, but growing together and making AMAZING work while they do it. I have the most talented friends.
I call this, “4:18am studio self portrait”.
Crit wall! #risd
I made this pattern a few weeks ago. It’s nice to see it on a shirt!
Feels good to revisit some patterns that I created earlier in the semester and put them on things! I’m loving the blue and white!
Fingers crossed that I can sell prints at Craft Land!! I just sent in my application.
New idea for a blog, RISD students submit pictures of their dark under eye circles. #finalsface #risd #weareallinthistogether

Percheron Draft Horse, Large Handmade Silkscreen Print
I grew up in Upstate New York around a lot of farms. Visiting these farms as a child was always a special treat. My favorite part about going to these farms was seeing all the fun animals. I loved looking at and petting the goats, sheep, pigs, and various other critters but by and large (pun intended) my favorite animal to visit was always the huge draft horses.
Draft horses hold a special place in my heart. They are even tempered, gentle animals with big hearts and a strong work ethic. Whenever I spend time with draft horses I’m reminded of the importance of hard work, sincerity, and kindness.
